This Means War

It all began on a dark and blustery day.
Baby Annie the beaver came rushing home
“Mom! Dad,!” she called out, “I have something to say:
Our neighbor, the coon, is hiding in the brome.

He popped his head up and said boo to me.
And that nearly frightened me out of my wits.
I started to run home as fast as can be,
I should have told him this really was the pits.”

“That means war for sure,” Billy the Beaver said.
“Quick, Lizzie, find me the pea shooter I bought.
Let’s see if we can find him, full speed ahead!
Frightening babies, that is not what he was taught.”

Billy kept shooting peas into the tall grass,
Hoping he could scare and flush the raccoon out.
Suddenly the coon popped out of the morass
And he called out “boo” in a somewhat mild shout.

Billy burst out laughing and barely could stop.
That is very funny, Coon, I must admit.”
Baby Annie thought to herself what flip-flop!
But even she gave in to a laughing fit.
